ProgramDAY 1You arrive at your hotel in Abruzzo in Lanciano or in neighboring localities. After you have settled into your confortable hotel room, you will meet your experienced local guide for a welcoming drink and for a view of the activities. Dinner and overnight. DAY 2
After breakfast, you’ll meet the guide for a full day excursion. Arrival to Villetta Barrea. Walking Tour (4/5 km) to the Riserva Integrale della Camosciara. A short path to the "Cascatelle delle Ninfee" and "tre cannelle". Then the guide leads you to Civitella Alfedena. You can visit the old town, the Museo del Lupo (Wolf Museum) and the wildlife area of lynx and wolf. Tasting of typical products of the park will follow. Typical lunch at a restaurant of the park. In the afternoon transfer to Scanno. Your guide will take you for a fascinating walk through the historic centre to admire the old ladies with their traditional clothing and watch the goldsmiths in the manufacture of filigree jewelry including the traditional "presentosa". Later stop at a local bakery to taste the typical cake “pan dell’orso", a delicious sweet made of almonds and covered with fine chocolate. Return to your hotel. Dinner not included. Overnight. DAY 3Breakfast at hotel. Today’s route will take you by a 1 hour-long boat ride, to the Tremiti Islands, an exceptionally isolated archipelago in the Adriatic Sea approximately 40 km east of Termoli. You’ll admire a world of raggedy cliffs, sandy caves and thick pine woods, surrounded by the glittering dark-blue sea. Then you’ll enjoy a boat tour around the beautiful Island of San Domino, the largest and lushest island. You’ll visit the historic village of the Island of San Nicola, especially to the Benedictine abbey Santa Maria a Mare. Its treasures are a painted wooden Byzantine Crucifix and a black Madonna probably transported there from Constantinople in the Middle Ages. Lunch at a restaurant. Freetime for staying on the beach or shopping. At the end of this full day excursion, your guide will take you back to your hotel. Dinner not included. Overnight.
(3/9/2011 - Lanciano: International Medieval Market, medieval gourmet route and medieval shows) DAY 4After breakfast, you’ll meet the guide for a half day excursion. You’ll visit the old town centre of Lanciano. You’ll discover many interesting monuments and buildings situated in the four historic districts: Lancianovecchia, Civitanova, Sacca and Borgo. You’ll enjoy the visit of the Church of San Francesco which houses the relic of the first and greatest Eucharistic Miracle of the Catholic Church. The Miracle, that every year brings in the city thousands of pilgrims attracted by mistery and deep faith, took place in the VIII century when a Basilian monk’s doubt turned the holy host into flesh, and the wine into blood. Freetime to visit the Diocesan Museum. The city keeps alive the memory of its history with the several traditional festivals. One of them is the historical celebration of the investiture of the Mastrogiurato, the city governor during the fairs. Farewell lunch in a typical restaurant. Return to your hotel.
